My name is Nathan Devlin. I am an artist with Cerebral Palsy, born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. I paint mainly using acrylics but often add other mediums to my work. I venture out with my camera sometimes but my main joy is painting. I sometimes use adapted tools and switch interfaces to complete elements of my work but my main tools are my hands and fingers.
I take my inspiration from Alberta’s beautiful natural landscapes. Every summer, I spend time in Kananaskis Country at the William Watson Lodge where the stunning mountains and lakes always give me ideas for a new painting.
You can usually find me at various art walks and shows in and around Edmonton.
Check out my gallery. Most of my paintings can be reprinted. Prints can be ordered on canvas, specialty paper, or even metal! Just send me an email and we can work out the details.
Thank you for checking out my site and I hope you enjoy looking at the paintings as much as I enjoyed creating them!
NATHAN DEVLIN • ARTIST &PHOTOGRAPHER
As an Edmonton-born artist with cerebral palsy, I have always seen my disability not as a limitation, but as a unique lens through which I can create meaningful and inspiring art. My creative process is deeply personal; I primarily use my fingers to paint, allowing me to produce unique brush strokes that give my work its distinctive character. Occasionally, I employ a brush or roller strapped to my hand to craft vibrant backgrounds. I am fortunate to have an assistant who helps me prepare the canvas with paint, enabling me to focus on the act of creation.
Nature is my greatest muse. Flowers, forests, and mountains serve as endless sources of inspiration for my work. I am drawn to scenes bursting with bright colors and compelling contrasts, which evoke the stunning beauty I observe in the natural world. These vivid contrasts not only bring life to my paintings but also reflect the dualities and diversities of nature itself.
What differentiates my artwork is the texture and emotion I can convey through finger painting. This technique allows me to connect more intimately with my work, translating the tactile sensations and immediate physical feedback directly onto the canvas. Each piece of art I create is both a testament to nature’s beauty and a celebration of resilience and creativity in the face of challenges.
